7. How to get into a career in the armed forces after Class 12?
Armed forces of India include the Army, Navy and Airforce. Post Class 12, students have three options to enter the armed forces –
1. NDA (National Defence Academy) – Both male and female aspirants are eligible for admission to the prestigious National Defence Academy which is located in Khadakwasla near Pune, Maharashtra.
2. 10 + 2 Technical Entry Scheme (TES) – Male candidates who have passed the 10+2 exam with 60 percent marks in PCM from a recognised education board are eligible to apply for this entry. Candidates must have appeared in the JEE (Mains) exam as a prerequisite before applying.
3. 10+2 (BTech) Cadet Entry Scheme – Students can join the prestigious Indian Naval Academy, in Kerala for a four-year BTech degree course under this scheme. Unmarried male candidates who have passed the 10+2 exam with 70% marks from PCM stream with at least 50% marks in English can apply. The IIT JEE (Mains) exam is mandatory for this scheme.

8. How to get into a career in the armed forces after graduation?

There are seven ways to enter the armed forces after graduation. They are CDS, AFCAT, Technical Graduates Course (TGC), Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET), SSC Tech, NCC Special entry and Judge Advocate General (JAG). Both male and female candidates are eligible to appear in all these exams except for Technical Graduates Course for which only male candidates can apply.

9. How can I become a lawyer in the army?

Candidates holding a law degree (LLB degree) with a minimum of 55 percent aggregate marks along with registration as an advocate with the Bar Council of India can apply for the grant of a Short Service Commission in the Indian Army for the Judge Advocate General Branch. Both male and female candidates between the age of 21 to 27 years are eligible to apply for the JAG (Men and Women) entry scheme.

10. How can I become a doctor in the army?

You can become a doctor in the army by writing and qualifying the NEET entrance exam and pursuing MBBS at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune. Apart from the NEET exam, candidates will also have to undergo psychological tests and physical examinations to qualify for the AFMC. Students typically have to score in the top 500 ranks in NEET to stand a chance to get into this college. After completion of MBBS, students have to sign a bond to work in the armed forces. They may be deployed to combat areas or various army hospitals across the country.

11. What is the NCC Special Entry to the Indian army?

NCC Special Entry (Men and Women) is another way through which NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders are granted a Short Service Commission in the Indian Army. Candidates should be between 19 to 25 years to apply for NCC Special Entry (Men and Women). A degree from a recognised university with a minimum of 50 percent marks is required along with a minimum of ‘B’ Grade in the ‘C’ Certificate Exam of National Cadet Corps (NCC).
